Project Overview
-
Many customers worry that choosing darker cabinetry will make their kitchen feel too dark, particularly when the room is narrow or receives limited natural light. For this project, the aim was to create a kitchen that embraced a darker, more colourful door finish while keeping the space feeling light, welcoming and practical for everyday cooking and baking.
-
A kitchen isn’t defined by its door colour alone. It’s the sum of all its parts, from textures and reflections to flooring, wall colours and lighting. Here, the darker worktops were replaced with bright white quartz surfaces that help bounce light around the room.
Freshly painted white brick walls provide a lovely contrast to the satin-finish shaker cabinetry, allowing the richer door colour to stand out without overwhelming the space.
-
Improved ceiling lighting and under-cabinet lighting make a real difference to the overall feel of the room, helping to brighten work areas and create a more inviting atmosphere.
Bosch appliances, an undermount sink and plenty of additional storage bring practicality to the design, giving the homeowners everything they need to bake, cook and create.
-
The transformation was about more than simply choosing lighter surfaces. By considering how natural and artificial light interact with the different finishes, we were able to create a balanced scheme that makes the darker cabinetry work beautifully. The combination of white quartz worktops, freshly painted brickwork and carefully positioned lighting helps the room feel brighter and more open.
-
The finished kitchen is a perfect example of how darker colours can work beautifully when every element is carefully considered. With more storage than the previous layout, practical cooking areas and a welcoming atmosphere, it’s a lovely new space for the homeowners to enjoy, exactly as they wanted.
Don’t be afraid to embrace colour.
